What to look out for

A good advice to grab good mangoes at the store is to pick the ones that present a yellow or orange/red exterior, and that have a very fruity aroma. Also, ripen mangoes will be soft and smooth to the touch, as opposite to a green and hard mango.

The process of ripe a mango can be accelerated by just placing the mango inside a brown paper bag over the counter for 2 days.

Storage

Mangoes can be stored in 3 different ways:

Counter: The best and proper way to store an unripe mango is just placing it over the counter in a dark spot for a few days until its ripen and good to be eaten.

Fridge: In case the mango is already ripen, but it will not be consumed in a few more days, place it inside the vegetable drawer in the fridge. The cold temperature will slow down the spoiling process of the fruit.

Freezer: Mangoes can also go to the freezer in case it will be necessary. In order to do so, first peel, and chop the mango, placing the pieces over a baking tray. Arrange the baking tray inside the freezer for a few hours. To finalise, arrange the frozen mango inside a freezer-friendly container and it’s done.
